About

ABOUT BENNETT LAW LLC

Bennett Law LLC is a top-rated law firm that concentrates exclusively in the area of divorce and family law serving clients in both Cook and DuPage Counties.  Principle attorney Bradford L. Bennett founded Bennett Law LLC to provide a more client-driven approach to family law in order to strategically facilitate favorable resolutions for his clients.  In addition to tradition representation (i.e. negotiating and litigating on behalf of clients), Brad also provides consultancy services for individuals who choose to represent themselves in court.

BRADFORD L. BENNETT

Philosophy

With over 16 years of experience, Brad has successfully resolved hundreds of divorce and family law cases both inside and out of the courtroom.  During his career, Brad has developed a unique approach to the practice of family law, one that focuses not only on the immediate needs of his clients, but whether those needs will be met well after the conclusion of their case.  Brad’s client can expect ongoing strategy dialogues throughout his representation as well as an education on the cost-benefit analysis of each decision.  While Brad believes most family law matters are best resolved by the parties through settlement, he is not afraid to advocate for his clients through litigation or leverage their positions with a detailed discovery investigation.  The results Brad obtains for his clients are reflective of his varied background, comprehensive experience, courtroom acumen, as well as the strategic approach he develops for each case.

Education

Brad graduated with honors from Indiana University-Bloomington in 2003, obtaining dual Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology, while gaining valuable experience as a law clerk for the Monroe County (IN) Public Defender’s Office.

Brad then attended Golden Gate University (CA) School of Law, and while obtaining his law degree in 2006, worked as a law clerk in the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office. He also served as the editor of the International Law Review and also helped edit and research the California Real Estate Forms Second Edition (Thomson West 2006).

While practicing family law full-time, Brad continued his educational pursuits at night by earning his Masters of Law (LL.M) degree in Family Law from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2012. At Kent, Brad was awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in “Advanced Legal Writing” as well as “Children and Divorce”.

In 2016, Brad became both a trained and certified family law mediator as well as collaborative law attorney to better offer an alternative to the often costly and time-consuming model of litigating family law matters in court.

Rounding out his skill set, Brad became a 'Certified Divorce Financial Analyst' in 2017 having passed all four rigorous exams to earn such distinction by the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts.

In recognition of his advocacy, Brad has been named as an Illinois ‘Super Lawyer’ in the area of family law for 13 of the past 15 years, first as a ‘Rising Star’ in 2010 to 2012 and 2015 through 2021 and now as a ‘Super Lawyer’ in 2022, 2023, and 2024.  This peer nominated honor is bestowed on only a small fraction of the attorneys in the State of Illinois.

In 2015, 2016, and 2017, Brad was also named an “Emerging Lawyer” by Illinois Leading Lawyers and a Top 100 Matrimonial & Family Lawyer by The National Advocates.

Testimonials

TESTIMONIALS

"… I reached out to Brad when I figured that my previous attorney was goofing around with my case and no progress was made after months expect my wallet was draining. My ex and opposing counsel was coming up all kind of false narratives to influence the court, keeping my son away from me, mentally torturing me in all possible ways and dragging the case to no end. I needed someone to understand the situation, listen to me and save me out of the deep hole I was in, get a GAL appointed and move the case forward … Immediately after Brad represented me in the court, we got a GAL appointed. During the process, my ex and opposing counsel tried to influence the GAL with false narratives and drama. But under the expert guidance of Brad and his team I was able to prove my arguments establish equal parenting rights for my son and establish a decent allocation judgment. … My case went on for 2 and half years with a trial that lasted around 7 days! At the end of the trial, we exposed all the false claims made by my ex and her counsel, all the assets she was hiding got exposed and accounted for. One thing you always hear is trials are risky and expensive. When you know you are right and you got the right team representing you in the court, it's worth taking the risk and stand up for your loved ones. At the end, our Judge literally entered almost our entire proposed Judgment utterly ignoring opposing counsels! … I am happy and proud that Brad and his team represented me in my case and I highly recommend them! …”
